TVR 290 S2, finished in dark blue with beige leather interior. When TVR launched the S-Series it became the turning the point in their long history, that rebuilt excitement in the brand. A two door sports convertible boasting a front engine V6, sending drive to the rear wheels.
BACKGROUND
A 1989 model, with 6 previous owners and having covered just 68, 002miles. Finding an S-Series with a concise and well documented history is nowadays not an easy find, however this vehicle offers exactly that. Original handbooks inc service book, vast selection of non-digital MOT’s, plus receipts for preventative work and regular maintenance throughout its life. The S2 was last serviced in 11/ 22 and has an MOT until 10/ 23.
MECHANICAL
The S-Series was not short of performance, with the Ford 2. 9 litre V6 packing 170bhp and delivering 0-60mph in just 6. 8secs. Significant investment has been made to ensure that this S2 has a long life ahead. More recently the vehicle has had various mechanical work completed, which included new shock absorbers on all four corners, brake servo and master cylinder, rear brake cylinders/ shoes & adjusters, exhaust, and setup of ride height & wheel alignment. Some S-Series examples are known to have lost their tight and responsive drive over the years where maintenance has not been completed as needed, this S2 however its not one of them. On road test the steering is sharp, and the ride is firm & true, exactly as you’d expect from a well-cared for TVR.
EXTERIOR
Arguably the one of most important factors when buying an S-Series is finding one with a solid chassis. Well thankfully this S2 had a body off lift in 2018 and both outriggers replaced, most importantly by a TVR specialist. A full body respray was also completed and truly shows in how bright the car looks today. Shut lines all appear as they should, and apertures close as expected. All four wheels have been recently refurbished.
INTERIOR
The seats are full leather, which was an option over the typically standard half leather. They present free of damage or bolster wear, yet some minor signs of cracking in the leather itself. The dashboard and door trims are all in excellent condition. A new set of carpet mats has been recently installed. The targa top sections are in great condition and removal is quick and simple. The rear window is clear and free of any major creases. Once the roof is fully retracted and you pump the accelerator, the TVR driving sensation is truly realised.
