The Lancia brand is synonymous with rallying having dominated the Group B era with the Startos, 037 and most notably the Delta from the 70s through to the early 90’s. Prior to the formation of the WRC, it was the mighty Fulvia that paved the way for Lancia’s rally success.
In 1972, the Fulvia won the final International Championship for manufacturers spring boarding the rally campaigns. The success of the Fulvia was not limited to the variable surfaces of the rallying world, its motorsport heritage was also notable in international circuit competitions. In 1968 a standard bodied Fulvia Sport won its class in at the 12 hours of Sebring setting up an impressive string of endurance results. A year later the Fulvia HF Zagato of Algar Enterprises went on to win its class at the gruelling Daytona 24 Hours and coming home in 11th overall beating a host of top end cars of the era.

This original Zagato, offered here for sale on behalf of the owner, was commissioned by an Italian enthusiast to replicate the Algar Enterprises car. The work was carried out by an ex factory mechanic (with no expense spared!) developing it into a very capable and exceedingly enjoyable roadable track and race car.

This beautiful 1600 Fulvia Sport Zagato has a full race ‘Variante 1016’ spec engine running twin Weber 40s with over 160BHP at the wheels. The suspension has been upgraded to race spec which has both stiffened and lowered the car giving minimum roll in corners and huge grip when paired with the 8” slicks and semi slicks.
So accurate is the build that, in 2014, it was granted FIA HTP papers (still valid and in date) and it competed in a pair of international races prior to its import into the UK finishing respectfully and out dragging the BMW 2002s down the straights!

The current owner, a notable historic racer, has undertaken a full front-end refurbishment having dropped the subframe, replaced the shocks, rebuilt the leaf spring, powder coated relevant components and tidied the engine bay. The engine has been stripped and rebuilt with all new seals and gaskets and had a road and track shakedown. It is sold with a spare short ratio gear box, 5 sets of wheels - 2 road sets and 3 race sets, front drive shafts, radiator, final drive cog set and a selection of miscellaneous items.
