1952 Bristol 401 - Now Reserved
Always a motor car that has appealed to connoisseurs, Bristol cars have always had a most loyal following.
The 401 - the first of the ‘Aerodyne’ models - was produced between 1948 - 53. This model was a development of the 400, which remained available until 1950. The 401 proved to be very successful, with a total of 611 units built.
Power came from an improved version of the pre-war BMW M328 engine developing bhp and this, allied to the sleek styling with a very low drag coefficient, made for a motor car capable of almost 100 mph. Acceleration was particularly brisk for a car in the 2 litre class with 0 - 60mph taking just 15 seconds.
The exclusivity offered by the Bristol 401 came at a price, however, with a cost of £3532 including purchase tax.
The 1952 example we present here was first registered on 18th July of that year to a Mr Thomas Rutter of Sussex. Various changes of ownership are recorded, with the car passing to the present custodian 11 years ago. She is most attractively finished in metallic pale green with beige leather interior trim which is in first class order.
This fine example that has proved its worth touring in France, Spain, Germany and Italy and the fitted overdrive makes light work of long journeys. Specification includes 406 front suspension (disc brakes with Coopercraft callipers and new servo) and all work carried out by respected marque specialists. She sits on Michelin X tyres which give a most period appearance. High level brake light and LED rear lights are fitted for added safety.
There is an extensive service/ maintenance history supplied, which dates back almost 50 years, leaving little doubt that this car has clearly been properly cared for. The current MOT certificate was obtained in January this year, with no advisories.
Presented in excellent all-round condition, this Bristol is sure to appeal to an enthusiast seeking a high-quality motor car that is both capable and of appealing appearance.
