This car was originally sold and supplied on the Isle of Man to a gentleman called Dr John Vernon Dunworth CBE who was of notable importance in the nuclear energy industry. The car went on to live a coveted existence on the island until 2016 when it was imported by the current enthusiast keeper and showing just 86k miles on the clock. It comes with various original documents including manuals and period sales brochures. In the last 7 years it has been subject to a meticulous exterior refreshment including a full professional respray in the rare but original champagne metallic with the correct decals, a fresh set of sporty mini-light alloy wheels with Uniroyal tyres, spot lamps, fresh chrome parts and much more. A thorough mechanical recommissioning has also been carried out, including but not limited to a new clutch, camshaft, carburettor, timing belt, alternator, starter motor, fuel tank sender and fuel pump, with supporting invoices. The shell itself is in totally rust free condition and is completely solid on all floorpans, sills and arches. Underneath has been treated to a light coat of waxoil to protect and preserve, whilst still being able to visibly demonstrate that it is not hiding anything undesirable. Various hard to source new old stock parts have been fitted, including a fresh carpet boot mat. Many charming original features have been retained such as the lovely velour interior, with contrasting wood trim. The car starts, stops and drives without issue. Progress is relaxing and stress free, with a quiet engine and a slick 4 speed gearbox. Power delivery is smooth, and it pulls up nice and square under braking. There are no knocks or bangs to detract from the comfortable ride quality. Although having just turned 40 years old, this car is obviously now tax and MOT exempt, but recent MOT has been conducted for peace of mind, and the tax exemption has been registered with DVLA. To sum up, this is an extremely rare and attractive example of the mk5 Cortina, it is 'on the button' and ready for a new owner to cherish and enjoy at this year's shows, where I am sure it will gain much admiration!
