The NAAMSA National Association one Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa , the official government Assosictaion that has been recording vehicle sales in South Africa from the 1950s recorded only 13 of these vehicles ever been manufactured and sold.

This rare version has the uprated and more powerful TI specs standard form the South African assembly line.

The Berlinas that were all produced in only left hand drive form had a steering mounted gear lever, different instrument panels, lesser specced trim and down specced performance. This right-hand drive Berlina of which only 13 were ever produced and sold only in South Africa has the specs pf the Ti. The gear box has been changed to a 5 speed otherwise its a matching engine and chassis original car with just 3 owners from new, being an upcountry car.

Desirable TI version of the very capable classic Giulietta
Floor-mounted shifter
Final post-1961 facelift car with updated aesthetics
Solid and presentable car with scope for improvement
Highly original interior in good condition with gentle patina
A great introduction into the understated yet highly capable world of 60s Alfa saloons

The conservative styling of the original Alfa Giulietta ‘Berlina’ saloon, launched in 1955, was a clever motoring bluff. Because beneath the conventional three-box styling lay the heart of a sports car, the car sharing its mechanicals and running gear with the achingly beautiful Giulietta Sprint sports car. The TI version upped the game with extra power to maximise return on the car’s engaging chassis.

This 1961 Giulietta TI carries the facelift styling of the later cars and appears to be very original and solid.

INTERIOR
Grey vinyl seats with contrasting blue backs in good, very presentable condition
Interior appears to be very original and would respond well to a good valet and clean
Grey carpets in good condition
Dials and dashboard are good and appear original, just some light sun fade to the dials to note
Beautiful painted dashboard with lovely Alfa-esque detailing
Vinyl headlining appears to be original
Neatly styled two-tone door cards appear original
Gorgeous two-tone, twin-spoke Alfa Romeo steering wheel

EXTERIOR
Smart blue paintwork in generally good condition, there are signs of deterioration but nothing unsightly or structural
Underside is solid
There are a few areas to note on the body including:
Corrosion bubbles beginning to appear on passenger side rear door edge and base and on the rear arch on the same side
Scuff on the nearside front arch
Chipped paint on nearside rear corner
Mark on the driver’s side front arch edge
Alfa Romeo badge missing from grille
Front and rear bumpers are complete and undamaged but with signs of pitting and surface corrosion
Badging is complete and in original condition
Hub caps are missing

MECHANICS

Advanced 1290cc 4cyl Alfa Romeo engine with aluminium block and head
TI specification delivers 73bhp, 12bhp more than the standard car
5 spd manual gearbox
Twin choke single carburettor

Alfa’s conventionally styled three-box Giulietta saloon offered practicality for the family but something considerably extra for the driver. Engineered by Alfa in true fashion it was a sports car for the family and the TI version added extra performance and verve.

This facelift 1961 Giulietta Berlina one of only 13 right hand drive versions in the world and presently the only one known to still exist is very solid and original. For enthusiasts of classic Alfas or great 1960s saloons it is a rare and enjoyable investment. SOLD
