1933 Sunbeam Model 8 Registration Number: 0J 6662 Frame Number: 9082 - Fully restored by current owner - Presented in show condition. Sunbeam had begun experimenting with overhead valves on their factory racers in the early 1920s and these duly appeared on production models in 1924. The John Greenwood design was advanced for its day, with a specification which included a crankshaft supported by three ball-bearings, dry sump lubrication and a primary drive enclosed in a cast alloy chain case. Power was transmitted by single-row chain to a three speed, cross-over drive gearbox with offside power take-off and hand gearchange. The first OHV production Sunbeams were listed as Model 8 (350cc) and Model 9 (500cc) in 1924. The model 8 with a bore and stroke dimensions of 70 x 90 was an excellent sporty tourer. The Model 8 stayed in production until 1931, but in 1933, it appeared in the catalogue again, virtually unchanged, where it stayed until 1939. This outstanding 1933 example still retains its plate OJ 6662 as per the original 1933 registration. The Sunbeam was restored by its current owner, a motorcycle engineer, and subsequently used on VMCC club runs. Offered with a current V5c, this machine not only looks wonderful, but is also in excellent running order.
This bike will be sold at auction with Dore & Rees Motoring at the Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show at the Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, on Sunday 25th February 2024. For more details contact the Motoring Department via the above details.
