Really good value for money MG soft top ready to drive away, use it every day or keep it for the weekends, this is a lot of fun car for under £1700, its not a 17 grander just a cheap bit of motoring fun, these cars are becoming collectable with Mathewsons (Bangers & Cash) selling one last month for £13700
First registered in May 2003 it has MOT until 11th October with no advisories, just 69500 miles and its HPI clear. This is the 1. 6lt petrol engine, manual 5 speed gearbox “Cool Blue” edition with two tone leather interior, air con, elec windows, front driving lights, alloy wheels, manual folding roof and optional wind deflector and an after market stainless steel exhaust with a lovely sporty note, the smart alloys are in really good order and all have very good tyres fitted, full size spare and tools included.
It starts, runs and drives very well, see the video, we are very impressed with how this car drives, its tight as drum, no vagueness and very responsive, all the fun of vintage soft top MG in a more modern and very usable package, you could easily drive this every day. We’ve been out mid winter with the hood down and heater on and you could go all day, the little wind deflector behind the headrest really protects you from buffeting and the heaters good enough to keep you suitable warm.
Everything is working as it should, central locking remote, two keys (one remote), full logbook, fancy Sony stereo with USB and Bluetooth connections for handsfree phone calls. Very well presented throughout, minor imperfections will be found on close inspection. We can’t confirm the performance of the air con (too cold outside to be able to tell), but it lights up as intended.
Oil is fresh and clean and the water is pure and clear with the correct pink antifreeze, no head gasket issues or obvious problems, yes this model had issues with head gaskets but that was 20 years ago and those that are left have been sorted a long time ago. In the boot, the engine bay and under the front bonnet are all very clean and in tip top condition. The 115bhp engine is cheap to run and ECO friendly, its ULEZ compliant so you can drive it into the London and all other UK low emission zones free of charge.
Whoever buys this will be delighted, its huge value for money, not so long ago you could pick these up for pennies, but now the trade and collectors have woken up to what a little gem’s they are and prices are rising quickly. Plenty of specialist supplying aftermarket parts and mechanics are shared with many Rover models and available off the shelf. We have no service history, don’t know if the cambelts been changed, or if it’s had 1 or 21 head gaskets fitted in its early years what we do know is the car is driving spot on and has all the appearance of being looked after.
If you want to debate its lack of service history, the cost of a cambelt change that’s probably already been done, the problems with the head gaskets they had 20 odd years ago or you wear driving gloves or a baseball cap with the MG logo please DO NOT contact me, if you want some cheap open top fun get in touch. It’s a tidy looking car from any angle but up close you will find the odd imperfection as with any 21 year old car and its priced according to its condition and lack of history.
Have a bit of fun on your way to work and tear up and down some country lanes at the weekend, it’s less money than an equivalent Ford Fiesta and 10 times more enjoyable.
