Fantastic beautifully restored very early January 1960 848cc Mini
1959 was the birth of the Mark One Mini. With only approx. 800 being made these are now very collectable and command a high price. This car was born 2 weeks into the new year of 1960. Reg date is 13th January 1960, it still retains all the original 1959 shell detail and trim so still very sought after especially in this condition and more importantly more affordable than one of the first 800 cars and its exactly the same.
Built 15th Jan 1960 for home market (UK spec car) and supplied by Barretts Limited, Canterbury, Kent. Chassis number A-A2S7/ 11741, this is a RHD De-luxe version in Speedwell Blue with an optional extra heater. It has most of the early body features like non recessed front and rear screen apertures, no drain holes in the gutters, no drip rail, flat sills, holes in the end of the doors for rain drainage, single hinge sun visors, and no seat belts.
This little gem was restored in the 1990's by an Accredited Rover Technician from Appleyard Rover, Leeds. There are a number of pictures in the history file to show the bare metal restoration and engine rebuild. Recently it has benefited from a new rear subframe, 5 new tyres, a new stainless steel exhaust, and is MOTd until April 2011, and taxed (historic).
There is a Heritage Certificate in the history file issued 2nd November 1990 by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.
The interior is fantastic condition with original grey and red leathercloth upholstery, all the early features like push button starter on the floor and the rear seat backrest which looks too big for the car.
Optional extra was a heater! it was the only available factory option.
The bodywork and paintwork are in fantastic condition. Super straight with no rust or scratches etc., panel gaps are as they should be and all panels close and fit perfectly. The rear number plate still has the original mini trade mark swinging carrier.
The wheels and 5 new tyres are both in immaculate condition as you would expect from this first class attention to detail restoration.
Being very low mileage the original and first A-series 848cc spec engine is super quiet it starts 1st time every time, the gear box and clutch work effortlessly.
