History:
The Renault R4 made history as the first car with a large tailgate and variable interior space. The multi-purpose car, which was built successfully for 34 years, is almost extinct in Central Europe. In southern countries, the R4 can still be seen very often today. Either it is in constant use and shows every conceivable sign of age, or it serves as a fashionable car for holiday home owners and trendsetters. This R4 was in use for decades as a multi-purpose car for a Renault dealership. Most recently, it was used for the federal final examinations for vehicle restorers on the subject of restoration counselling (where the Goodtimer boss is employed as a lecturer and examination expert) and brought to Goodtimer from there. It will be left as it is for sale; technically in perfect working order, visually with traces of work, which will not give it a veteran's stamp. Instead, it is an extremely honest specimen that will please an enthusiast as it is or serve as an object for cosmetic restoration.
Bodywork and paintwork:
The bodywork is immaculate and free of rust. As mentioned, there are a few small dents and the one or other repair spot on the paintwork can also be discovered.
Interior
The interior is original and was renewed some time ago. Only the fabric on the driver's seat backrest has an 8cm cut.
The solid rubber mats are good and - most importantly - the entire underbody has been preserved.
Engine and mechanics
As the R4 was in use almost every week, it had to work perfectly. Whenever a repair had to be made, the technology was repaired. On the occasion of the journey to the test centre in Bern, the brakes were renewed, a service was carried out and the ignition system was restored.
Chassis
Chassis and running gear were on the test bench and ready for a fresh MFK inspection.
Driving experience
The Renault 4 is something like a Döschwo, only much more powerful, or something like a Fiat 124 estate, only much more practical, or something like a VW Golf, only much more charming.
Recommendation
The R4 is definitely a car worth collecting. Anyone who drives it earns a lot of applause. It is not for nothing that many celebrities drive it on their holidays, because there is a place to park an R4 in front of every restaurant.
