Description
Alvis Silver Eagle Beetleback 1929
The Vintage Alvis Silver Eagle is undoubtedly one of the most underrated sports cars of its period, having better performance than any 3 Litre Bentley and most 41/ 2s at a quarter of the cost.
The car on offer is highly competitive, suitable for both track, rallies or fast touring. An easy to drive and super reliable Vintage Sports-Car eligible for and competitive in all the top events.
I acquired this VSCC registered (modified) Alvis Silver Eagle Beetleback in July 2020. It has a close ratio gearbox with a high ratio 4. 11 cw&p. A Dastek Dynamometer report recorded over 110 bhp at more than 5, 000 rpm. In 2014 it was timed at 105mph during the Le Mans Classic with full road equipment.
The engine has a Jim Evans camshaft and slightly raised compression ratio together with a full flow exhaust system, Register alloy clutch housing, new crankshaft, piston and rods, triple SUs, full flow dual silencer and exhaust system. The body is an original Carbodies SA Beetleback rebuilt and re panelled in aluminium by leading coachbuilder Rod Jolly.
The previous owner successfully raced the car at numerous events including Mallory, Donington, Pembrey, Castle Combe, as well as numerous hillclimbs and sprints.
Internationally
participated in the Classic Le Mans 2014.
I use the car as an extremely comfortable and fast touring car. In my ownership the interior has been completely reupholstered and a new hood and side screens made by one of the top Classic car upholsterers in Scotland. An original Alvis windscreen has been fitted but its competition aero screens could quicky be refitted I use the car mainly for personal use and I participated in the Scottish Alvis Tour in 2023.
Recent work includes: rebuilt starter, cylinder head overhaul, new hood and upholstery.
