Craner Classics are delighted to offer this nice useable example. The Austin was restored in the early 80s by a well known (at the time) club member, and it went on to win many awards. She also appeared on the club stand at the NEC Classic car show.
When the owner sadly passed away, the car was brought by a collector, who hardly used her, until some years later when she was sold to a gentleman who I purchased her from 3 years ago. This gentleman had been through the car mechanically, replacing many parts and getting her back to somewhere near her best. One very useful modification he undertook was to have the gearbox professionally rebuilt with the A35 ratios, (some say 3 first gears and a top) so this has made the car much more practical to use on the road.
I have changed oil the fluids including rear axel and gearbox oils and packed all the lubrications points with fresh grease. I have also fitted electronic ignition which does away with the fear of the points or condenser letting you down. I also had all 5 wheels sandblasted and repainted in the correct 'court grey' which we all know isn't grey at all, but more of a cream colour.
Considering it's 40 years since the car was restored, She still looks amazing, but she isn't perfect. The paint on the roof has micro blisters, as do some parts of the bonnet, although the rest of the body is very good. A flake of chrome has come away on the back bumper and a bit of paint has come away near the left hand boot hinge. Both areas are quite small and I painted them with zinc rich paint. apart from these tiny marks the bumper overall is good.
The brakes are as good as any A30 breaks can be, and you just need to learn to anticipate stopping bit sooner than in a modern car. The body work and underneath are both very solid, with just a bit of TLC I think she could be one of the best useable examples available.
Comprehensive history file included with a British motor industry heritage trust certificate and some very interesting pictures. There is also a bill from 1978 detailing what is basically a full engine rebuild costing just £137. 00. there are also old mot's and tax discs.
