1937 Rolls-Royce 25/ 30 Landaulet by Hooper & Co. Chassis GGR16, Registration CTF 540. Built for the British statesman and famous race horse owner, The Right Honourable The 7th Earl of Derby K. G.. Extensively restored to a high standard.
This very attractive Rolls has been owned by our vendor Mr Harry Sunderland for over 22 years. In line with the rest of his collection it has been beautifully restored during his ownership. It was built by the famous Royal coachbuilder Hooper & Co. of London for the 7th Earl of Derby and delivered to his seat, Knowsley Hall, Prescott. The Earl was born in 1865 and kept the car until his death in 1948. By 1938 Landaulet coachwork was considered rather old fashioned and was fairly rare but the Earl being from the Victorian age would have had very traditional tastes. The history file contains a copy of the original Hooper coachwork design drawing for the car which would have been sent to the Earl for his approval.
The coachwork is painted in cream and sage green with green leather upholstery to the chauffeurs compartment and West of England cloth to the rear. The luxurious fittings include seating for seven people including two jump seats, companions, silk rope pulls, silver plated flower vase, folding rear Landaulet roof panel above the rear passengers smoothly operated by the turn of a key . The car is complete with a rear trunk, mostly modern tools but original jack and wheel brace included, fitted car cover and extensive history file including old photographs of the car, old style log book and an original owners handbook. A lovely example of a 25/ 30 Rolls-Royce which has been well maintained by its knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner.
