SUMMARY
Although the ubiquitous (and rather good) Golf Mk4 was sold in large numbers, as Golfs always have been, the rare V5 variant wasn't, probably due to its high cost when new. This is a bit of a landmark car in automotive history as the Golf V5 (along with the Beetle & Passat of the time) being the only production cars ever to feature a V5 engine, making it quite a special vehicle. It's clever 5-cylinder steep V-Configuration housed under a single Cylinder Head made it very compact and allowed it perfectly to slot into the Golf's engine bay. It sounds gorgeous on full song, and makes a very similar sound to the Audi Quattro UR rally cars of the 80's.
I actually came across this Golf quite by accident; the lady owner of 20 years had taken it into a VW Main Dealer to discuss PX'ing it for something more modern. The Technicians there, many who had cut their teeth on the Golf Mk. 4 were attracted to it like a magnet, and it was through one of those guys how word got to me. She actually didn't want to get rid of it, but her family were pressuring her to get something newer. In anycase, I managed to track it down before it fell into the "PX Black Hole" that many gems like this can fall into, as I contacted the owner, who was a initially and understandably a bit suspicious, however, when I collected the car, I ended up being invited me in for tea and biscuits, so she could tell me all about the car, and how much she'd loved owning it; she'd kept everything for it, which seldom happens with cars like this. I ended up staying there for over two hours just chatting about this car, so know rather a lot about it!
I promised the owner when I bought this, that I would make sure it went to a good home, and to someone who would look after it. I also promised myself that I would go to town on this car, as it clearly deserves it, so it's currently having a major underside refresh, including replacement of the vast majority of suspension and brake components with brand new parts; many of these components were advised on, at the last MOT, so its only right to replace them. I've listed the jobs above, and will update as I go, as it well inevitably grow, as these jobs always do.
THE MTSV DIFFERENCE
Unlike some, I don’t just simply go out, buy any old car, give it a good clean, then advertise it for more than the purchase price, disregarding any issues the car may have in the hope the new buyer won’t notice…I just couldn’t do that. The cars I source are carefully selected and I work very hard so that when my cars leave me, I have the satisfaction of knowing they are as good as they possibly can be within the constraints I have. As such I have many repeat customers and new customers that have been recommended via word of mouth…the ultimate accolade for anyone in business. To read more, see my website.
Any other questions, please feel free to contact me at using the button below or on the details below. I'm a firstly and foremostly a true car enthusiast of many, many years, and a Mercedes Club Member, so it's a pleasure to meet and speak to like-minded people.
Finally, I'm situated in Keighley, West Yorkshire (Postal Code Area BD21) which is approximately 11 miles from Skipton, and 20 miles West of Leeds.
