Description
This is a very rare and highly significant 1988 Mitsubishi Starion 2. 0 Widebody Turbo, offered with exceptional provenance and a fully transparent, well-documented history.
A few years ago, this particular vehicle was sold directly by the Mitsubishi Heritage Centre, when they released a number of cars from their own collection. At that time, it was beautifully presented and achieved approximately £25, 000, reflecting both its rarity and quality. Following the sale, the car was entrusted to a well-known Mitsubishi specialist, where a further circa £6, 000 was invested to elevate it to an even higher standard.
In early 2025, the car was unfortunately involved in a road traffic accident on the M25, having been side-swiped by a lorry. The owner subsequently made the difficult decision not to retain the vehicle, and the insurance company released it for repair — at which point we acquired the car.
Crucially, there was no structural damage. All damage was confined to bodywork on the passenger side. Repairs included a replacement passenger door, repairs to the front wing and rear quarter, replacement of the rear bumper and tailgate, followed by repainting. While in the bodyshop, a small number of cosmetic imperfections were identified on the driver’s side, and a decision was made to carry out a full respray, ensuring a consistently high standard of finish throughout.
Once the cosmetic work was completed, the vehicle was returned to the same Mitsubishi specialist who had previously prepared it, for a full mechanical inspection and check-over. We would confidently say that the car is now presented in better overall condition than it was prior to the accident.
As a result of the incident, the car has been recorded as a Category S insurance loss. In our view, this simply forms part of the car’s history and journey, and all work has been carried out correctly, transparently, and to a very high standard.
The car is well known within owners’ club circles, who have been a valuable source of knowledge during the refurbishment process. We hold extensive photographic documentation of the car throughout its refurbishment, along with additional images supplied by previous owners from earlier periods of ownership.
In addition, due to its status as a former Mitsubishi-owned vehicle, there are period YouTube videos available from the time it was sold by the Heritage Centre. These include a particularly engaging approximately 10-minute road test, clearly demonstrating the car being driven properly and showcasing its performance and character.
A rare, engaging, and beautifully presented 1988 Starion 2. 0 Widebody Turbo, offering genuine grin factor and representing a serious long-term investment opportunity as numbers continue to diminish.
