Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show 2026 on Saturday the 21st of March - Sunday the 22nd of March, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT.
The Bentley R-Type, produced between 1951 and 1955, was the second series of post-war Bentleys and the successor to the Mark VI. It is celebrated as the final model developed before Bentley's engineering became more closely integrated with Rolls-Royce
The new car again came with a standard steel body, but the chassis was longer and the bodywork more evenly proportioned, with a raked rear end, sweeping wheel guards and streamlined front wings
Power was by Rolls-Royce's acclaimed torque-rich, 4. 5-litre six-cylinder engine, with inlet-over-exhaust valves offering spirited performance and smooth progress
This attractive example is finished in Regency Red over Platinum Silver with Ox Blood leather and figured walnut veneers
First owned by Captain D. Robin Adhead of the Gurkhas, who sold the car after three years when posted to Malaya, followed by six years of ownership by Captain St. Vincent Troubridge, before a subsequent owner took the car to Spain where it remained until the 1970s
Maintained by a respected Bath-based classic car specialist and supplied with paperwork dating back to 1965, including invoices for maintenance in current ownership
An invoice dated 16/ 06/ 2021 from T&A Motors Ltd contains details of a full service and brake work including renewal of front brake drums, wheel cylinders, ignition service items, fluids and general maintenance
Having seen limited recent use within the collection, light recommissioning may be required and viewing is highly recommended
With distinguished early custodians, an interesting overseas chapter and evidence of recent mechanical attention, this lovely R-Type represents an appealing opportunity to acquire a well-documented and usable example of classic post-war Bentley motoring
