Description
1963 CHEVROLET 'C30' PICKUPThe 1963 Chevrolet C30 is a 1-ton, heavy-duty model from the first generation of Chevrolet's iconic C/ K series. In Chevy’s nomenclature, 'C' denotes 2-wheel drive, while '30' represents the 1-ton payload class. Standard gross vehicle weight (GVW) was approximately 7, 200 lbs, making it the heavy-hitter of the light-duty lineup compared to the C10 (1/ 2-ton) and C20 (3/ 4-ton). It came standard with a tough 4-speed Synchro-Mesh manual transmission, while lower models typically started with a 3-speed. Equipped with larger 13-inch Torque-Action brakes as standard for improved stopping power under heavy loads. While often seen as a standard pickup (Fleetside or Stepside), the C30 chassis was frequently used for Panel Trucks, Stakes, Tow Trucks, and even Rescue vehicles. The 1963 model year marked a significant shift in the truck's appearance and mechanics:New Grille: 1963 introduced a redesigned grille featuring a unique egg-crate pattern, moving away from the 'nostril' bonnets of 1960–61. This was the first year for the legendary 230 cu in and 292 cu in Straight-6 engines, replacing the older 'Stovehead' designs. Unlike many competitors that used leaf springs, Chevy utilised a coil-spring rear suspension on these models to provide a smoother 'passenger-car-like' ride, which this example retains. Fitted with impressive 'twin stacks' and wooden side steps and rear load area- this Chevy Pickup was starting and driving last year but will require some recommissioning to bring into daily use. Imported from South Africa- the chassis is in relatively rust free condition and has a UK V5 and Nova paperwork. A rare and impressive example ready to be taken to the next level and with an attractive estimate of just £6000-7500. This vehicle is located near Lutterworth, Leicestershire LE17 from where it will need to be collected. Videos available on request.
