Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a sensation. Combining supercar-rivalling performance with breathtaking styling and an unexpectedly accessible price, it immediately captured the imagination of enthusiasts around the world. Early competition success in the hands of drivers including Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori further enhanced its reputation.
Constructed around a monocoque body with a front subframe supporting the engine and front suspension, the E-Type was technically advanced for its era. Independent suspension all round, rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes endowed the car with impressive roadholding and handling, while its elegant, low-slung form has since become one of the most recognisable shapes in motoring history.
Introduced to provide greater practicality, the 2+2 Coupé featured a longer wheelbase and additional cabin space while retaining the distinctive character and performance for which the E-Type had become renowned. By 1970, the Series II incorporated a number of developments aimed at improving usability and refinement, while retaining Jaguar’s celebrated 4. 2-litre XK straight-six engine.
This 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II 2+2 Coupé, registration OBV 616H, is finished in white with a contrasting dark red interior and is equipped with automatic transmission.
Originally delivered to the United States, the car was subsequently imported into the United Kingdom in 1994 and has since been converted from left- to right-hand drive.
The E-Type presents in good overall condition. Its white paintwork shows well, with only minor age-related blemishes consistent with the car’s age, while the chrome and brightwork remain in good order. The wheels also present well and complement the car’s timeless appearance.
Inside, the dark red upholstery provides an attractive contrast to the exterior and retains the character expected of this iconic British grand tourer. The odometer currently displays 20, 491 miles, although this mileage is not warranted.
