Here is my 1960 Minor Traveller which was not registered until 1963. All numbers confirm she is a 1960 car as does the 948cc engine (correct for the year) and other early Minor features such as the light coloured speedo calibrated to just 80 mph, the "clap hands" wipers and the switch arrangement. She has an MoT until June 2018 and this morning I took her on a 30-mile trip around the Yorkshire Dales where she performed most admirably, climbing steep hills in top gear and showing plenty of pep. She holds good oil pressure and water temp. Indeed I have just fitted a new water pump as her previous one was becoming noisy.

She looks strong underneath and her floor pans are good. All easy to see as she has no carpets. So, leading on from this, it's her cosmetics which let her down. Well, do they actually "let her down?" No, not really. Everything is relative and ought to be put into context. Therefore at the price I am asking, her cosmetics are quite simply what they are. Paintwork is flat. You may be able to improve it - I don't know as I haven't tried. There's an area to the bottom of the driver's door where there must have been a recent repair and you can see the primer sprayed on. The rear headcloth needs to be clipped back up just above the front seats and so I would say it's saveable. The front cab headcloth has been pushed towards the sun visors and I don't know if this can be saved or not. Also, her bonnet stay is missing as is the simple metal brace that fits across the underside. Again, a simple fix.

However - and much more importantly - she has excellent woodwork. It's rot free and free of any soft areas. It was replaced around ten years or so ago and has survived very well. There's a natural split towards the bottom of the curve down to the bottom step on the driver's side. You can see this in photo number 2. However, the previous owner of 15 years told me that this was glued and screwed at the time and has never been a problem ever since! I repeat, woodwork is really very good and a lovely golden shade!

So, that's pretty much it I guess. A user. A nippy little thing. An "oily rag" of a Gofer. Fiddle on with her and improve as you go. But jump in and drive now!

She is not £12k plus like so many on this very site. She is £3495. Bargain, bargain, bargain!!

All my classic cars are treated as the equivalent of motoring antiques. This one, for example, is 65 years old. They cannot be compared to the wife's six-month-old Chelsea tractor and they are bound to come with imperfections, quirks and bits and pieces that will need attention even if it is some time in the future. They do however come with oodles of charm, appeal and are there to be loved like a family pet. If you are new to the classic car scene, then please bear all this in mind. Demand is outstripping supply these days and they don't make the old girls any more. So, make some allowances and drive away with a smile on your face! Thanks for reading, Martin. the details below).
