Lot 25
A 1934 Sunbeam 25 Martin Walter Wingham four door cabriolet, registration number EA 6017, chassis number 8076. S, cream over black. As with other quality bespoke marques of the pre WWII period, each car would be supplied by the manufacturer in rolling chassis form to be despatched to a coach builder of choice. In this case the original owner chose Martin Walter Ltd, Folkestone, Kent to body the chassis in an elegant four seat tourer cabriolet with Glaser patented convertible top. The Glaser convertible top was beautifully constructed with a fully padded and lined interior which was very easy to open and close. This particular example is believed to be one of six constructed by Sunbeam and it is felt that this is the only survivor. Finished in cream over black with a tan leather interior, black mohair Glaser hood and cream wire wheels, our vendor reports that the Sunbeam was restored in the 1970s at a cost of £25, 000 and the car still presents very well today. More recent works carried out include the respraying of the front wings, and the refurbishment of all wire wheels with new tyres, inner tubes and tapes. On our inspection to take the catalogue photographs the car started easily, held good oil pressure and showed no signs of overheating. The vendor advises that the Sunbeam has been garaged for the last three years and will benefit from some light recommissioning before any extended use. 8076. S will be offered for auction with a history file and some useful and scarce spares including the original gearbox which will need rebuilding. RF60, V5C, MOT and tax exempt
