Description
1966 Ford Cortina MK1 Crayford Cabriolet - Super GT
Wow! A superb, fully restored Cortina MK1 with Crayford Cabriolet Roof.
One of only 17 remaining in the WORLD today! The Sun Visor has recently been signed by ' Mr Crayford' Himself - Mr David McMullan MBE!
The all new Cortina MK1 replaced the 315 Classic in October 1962 and was originally only available as a 2 door Saloon, perfect for a Crayford conversion with its long transatlantic lines with thin rear pillars perfect for a 'roof chop'.
Crayford Engineering were yet to be formed, when to Cortina Mk1 was originally launched and all Crayfords efforts went into the early Mini, so it was not until early January 1964, that Crayford announced that 'Autocar' announced the New 'Crayford Cortina MK1'. to the public!
The Car was launched at the Olympia 'Racing Car' Motor Show in late January 1964. A big scoop for Crayford was the Order of 30 Cars from Bermuda - these werte destined for use as Taxi's and Hire Cars - some were fitted with taxi meters. In the UK 'Philips Motors', operating as 'The Convertible Car Centre' in Chalk Farm, Regents Park, London - were appointed as the Sole UK Distributor to sell the 'Crayford Cortina MK1', these were built on the Deluxe, Super GT and Base Fleet Models. The Super GT, - which this Car is - was £1024 - over 50 years ago!
There is knowledge of just 17 Cars left in the World, from just 50 that were built! All have been seen and authenticated, none of the Bermudan Cars survived, probably due to the Sea and Salty atmosphere and the fact that they were hard-working Taxi's!
This truly is a VERY rare Vehicle and a very rare opportuntity to own a piece of Motoring History!
The Vehicle comes with a large Folder of Vehicle History, Registration Documents and Receipts.
Viewing by Appointment!
