The Oxford MKV1 “Farina” was launched in 1961 and was the last in the line of Morris cars to bear the name Oxford. In 1969, the Austin, Riley and MG versions were dropped but the Wolseley and Morris versions were kept on for two extra years. They were dependable and surprisingly good to drive but their robust nature lead to many being lost to the banger racing circuit. Today, these cars are something of a bargain; they can still be bought for the price of a Morris Minor and cost not much more to keep on the road.
This smart and attractive car is a 1969 Morris Oxford in Sandy Beige with white roof. We bought it as a stalled restoration and it had been in the same ownership for 15 years. The body and underside were restored several years ago (and are rock solid) and various mechanical jobs were completed including an overhaul of the brakes, suspension, a new clutch and some interior work. We have overhauled the electrics, fitted a new fuel sender, plugs, battery, oil and filter change, re-built the carburettor and fitted two new cross ply tyres. The seats and door cards have been re-trimmed and the headlining has been replaced. The paint is generally good with a few imperfections and a little micro-blistering to one wing but it presents very well and could be further improved with judicious flatting, polishing and touching in. The chrome on the front and rear bumpers is a little tarnished but again, presentable. The engine runs very sweetly and has very strong oil pressure and the gearbox is quiet and precise.
It is now 95% finished and no more than £300-£400 plus a couple of weekends work is required to make the car excellent. It needs new carpets and furflex, a new, a new heater control knob and cable and the seat belts fitting (if required). The rear section of exhaust is a little tired but serviceable. The temp guage has also stopped working but we suspect that this is the sender and the drivers push button lock has been replaced with a non-locking item and will need replacing. Included with the car are various trim parts to finish the interior, several spare chrome and bright-work pieces, a spare gearbox and spare front and rear screens.
We have various cars in work at the moment so we are offering this one as an easy project and if it does not sell unlikely) we will finish it and offer it completed. It represents great value for money as the best part of the asking price has been spent on it already!
