The Appeal
It’s easy to be deterred from buying a new car by today’s standards of intrusive safety aids, outsized touchscreens and lack of mechanical feedback. Yet classic cars often pose compromises of their own in terms of high mileages and patchy service histories.
Occasionally, a classic car reaches the market with none of the former’s integral flaws and none of the latter’s uncertainties. This stunning 2013 Porsche Boxster is one such example. Presented to market with less than 13,000 miles on the clock, it’s every inch the new car, from its pristine paintwork to its unmarked interior. It offers all the satisfaction of Porsche ownership, backed up by a fully documented history that showcases the minimal work required to maintain its original mechanicals.
There’s so much to admire here, from the gleaming Amaranth Red metallic paintwork to the limpet-like roadholding synonymous with every Boxster. Because it’s barely been run in, this car still feels factory fresh – that black canvas roof glides open, the retractable rear spoiler glides out and the seven-speed PDK gearbox glides through its seven ratios. The factory specification ran to a heated steering wheel, bi-xenon headlights, dual-zone climate and sat nav, making this a practical classic you could use every day. However, it would be tempting to retain it as a concours exhibit, where it would surely bring home awards.
No scuffs or blistering on the split-spoke alloy wheels
Excellent tread on all four Pirelli P Zero tyres
Fabric roof stows away quickly and smoothly
Deep front boot appears to have been barely used
Surface corrosion, but nothing untoward underneath the car
Settling into this lovingly maintained Boxster is like being transported back to a Porsche showroom in 2013. The paintwork gleams with a factory freshness that even extends to normally vulnerable body parts like the wing mirrors. The interior is superb, with a beige colour palette extending from the door cards and dashboard to the centre console and carpets; there are no signs of wear on the (beige) steering wheel or matching gearlever knob. Other than light wear in the pedal box, the overall effect is of a car which appears to have been barely used, despite the obvious temptations posed by that huge central rev counter and its 7,500rpm red line.
With so little mileage under its belt, it’s hard to describe this 2013 Boxster as anything other than manufacturer-spec. The current owner reports everything works as it should, with no replacement parts installed and no electrical gremlins for future owners to worry about. The roof and rear spoiler deploy as they should, while there are no warning lights on the dashboard and the infotainment screen appears to be working perfectly.
