Highlights
- Rare fastback in top-of-the-range GXL specification
- Extensively refurbished with approximately €14,500 invested
- NOS parts sourced from a Ford Taunus, Escort, and Capri specialist

The Appeal
The Ford Taunus TC1 fastback was Ford of Germany's sporting riposte to the European appetite for Mustang-style motoring in the early 1970s. In GXL trim, the pinnacle of the range, it came equipped with integrated fog lights, a vinyl roof, additional centre console instrumentation, premium upholstery, and the more powerful 1,600cc engine producing 88bhp. Alongside the Capri, it remains one of Ford Europe's most memorable shapes of the era, and surviving coupé examples are scarce today.
This 1973 example in Roman Bronze Metallic was built at Ford's Genk plant in Belgium for the French market and has been in the South of France since at least 1995, its history traced through owners in Tarn-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Orientales, and the Var. In current ownership since September 2024, it has been extensively refurbished following hail damage to its paintwork, with NOS parts sourced from Charron Auto Retro, a respected Ford specialist. The mechanical programme included an engine rebuild, brake overhaul, and new seals throughout.
Inside, the light brown interior presents well, with seats in the original beige colour and new carpets complementing the period character. Minor wear is noted on the temperature control face, lower storage pockets, and centre console armrest lid, with a small crack in the dashboard top cap.
