According to the data plate (and confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate), this Jaguar XK150 Drop Head Coupé rolled off the Browns Lane plant in Coventry on Friday 17th October, 1958.
Originally a left-hand drive model, it was promptly dispatched to the Jaguar Cars New York on 3rd November, 1958 shortly after which it received its first US registration. At some unknown time in its history, the car made its way to the UK and in 2010 underwent a comprehensive ‘body-off’ restoration and a conversion from LHD to RHD by renowned Jaguar XK specialists Twyford Moores of Waterlooville in Hampshire.
The current keeper acquired the Jaguar in July, 2017 and has enjoyed many a local and foreign road trip with it. While he has enjoyed the car immensely, it now needs to make way for a new member of what is an eclectic collection of ‘sentimetal’.
Accompanying the car will be a V5 Certificate registered in the current keeper’s name, a small file of service and maintenance invoices, documentation pertaining to its heritage, two original keys and an original ‘XK150 Operating, Maintenance & Service Handbook’.
The Interior

The smart and tidy interior presents to an extraordinary high standard and the sun-dressed tan leather furniture and door cards afford an air of 1950’s Californian lifestyle and glamour.
The restoration had all interior panels including door cards and bins totally rebuilt and recovered, along with the instrument cluster containing a set of period black-faced instruments. There is an elegant Moto-Lita split-rivetted wooden steering wheel to complete the interior aesthetic to honour the charm of its era.
Other soft furnishings such as the front and rear carpets present in excellent condition. Furthermore, the custodian reports that all the instruments, switchgear and backlights work as originally intended. The soft-top roof rises and falls as simply and quickly as originally intended and the matching dark green canvas is once again in pristine condition.
Additional creature comforts include a modern wind deflector installed behind the front seats and a high-end JVC DAB/ CD audio system concealed in the cubby hole.
The tidy, smart and carpeted boot houses a full-sized spare wheel under the boot floor and the engine bay is clean and exceptionally well presented. Both undersides of the boot lid and bonnet are in excellent condition as is the area concealed under the fuel filler flap.
The Exterior

Regimentally turned out in British Racing Green (incidentally, the model’s most popular factory colour), this 1958 Jaguar XK150 wears its second restorative coat proudly. So pristine is it, that it would surely be a crowd pleaser at any Concours d'Elegance event anywhere in the world.
The brightwork around the car shines as brightly as the day it was fitted over 60 years ago. None of the chrome work exhibits the remotest hint of pitting – a phenomenon usually associated with a car of this age.
The chromed spoked wheels are in excellent order as are the chromed wheel locknuts. The wheels are shod with a healthy set of Vredestein Sprint Classic tyres all round – including the spare housed under the boot floor.
At the front, the headlight lenses are crystal clear and the indicator/ reflector lenses show no hint of fogging often associated with a car of this age. The same may be said for the rear light clusters. A cursory glance down each flank shows no evidence of collision damage and all apertures open and close as intended.
Overall, the exterior condition of this iconic British coupé is indicative of the love and care afforded to it by its post-restorative keepers – while still being regularly enjoyed out on the open road where it belongs. Such an attitude towards classic car ownership and responsibility is a credit to its current keeper.
The Mechanics
