Registered November 1977
Signal Red with desirable 4-speed manual gearbox featuring overdrive in 3rd and 4th.
In 2008 the car underwent a major restoration which included a bare metal re-spray, engine rebuild and re-conditioning of the gearbox and overdrive etc. When the most recent custodian purchased the car in 2010 he continued to improve it further (including a gearbox replacement in 2017). The car has evidently been cherished and since the re-build in 2008 has only covered 15, 000 miles. It drives exceptionally well with taught handling, an overdrive that engages in and out as intended and a willing engine which pulls well, sounds fantastic and which will not overheat…
The original 3 litre Triumph V8 has been enhanced with extremely beneficial cooling mods which include an uprated 4-row core radiator, Kenlowe electric fan and additional header tank. In addition, the car now has electronic ignition, refurbished Stromberg carbs and Spax suspension, resulting in a further improved drive.
This being a desirable ‘late’ MK II (or facelift), the rear panel is finished in Signal Red also (not black). There were only 501 manual Stag’s manufactured in 1977 (the last year of production).
The black soft-top, which is also in excellent condition, and separate wind-deflector are with the car. This Stag wears its original 5-spoke alloy roadwheels (valve in front of spoke compared to aftermarket items with valves between spokes) and stainless steel sill covers. All of the brightwork is in marvelous condition and the paint has a deep shine.
There is an exceptional amount of history with the car; 3 x lever-arch folders in fact which provide essential maintenance information and the massive amount of servicing records, rebuild summary, technical details, old photo’s. There are invoices chronologically ordered dating back to 1987 and a total of 31 old MOT certificates dating back to 1982. Indeed although given the age of the car an MOT is not required, it has continued to be MOT’d annually, with no advisory notices issued during the last test.
The car is located at Leavenhalls Classic & Prestige in Shropshire. Any inspection welcomed.
Superb condition and exceptionally well maintained desirable 'late' MKII Stag with manual gearbox +overdrive which functions as it should. The car benefits from having been sorted both cosmetically and mechanically, including all the necessary cooling mods which led to issues with the 3-litre Triumph V8 in period.
