Beschreibung

For sale is a rare and unique vehicle with an intriguing history. This Ford F-1 Woodie Estate was originally supplied new to the US Consulate in Ireland for the exclusive use of the Consul General's bodyguards. It is one of just three such 'Woodies' ever made, making it a truly exceptional find.

The vehicle has recently undergone a full nut & bolt restorations as well as prior extensive work in the 1990s by S. T. Foreman of Bosham, West Sussex, known for their expertise in bodywork and woodwork restoration. This ensures that the Ford F-1 is in excellent condition, both aesthetically and structurally. Before entering the current Irish ownership, the vehicle was registered with the DVLA as 'MSU 202'. This registration adds to its unique provenance and further highlights its historical significance.

The Ford F-Series, also known as the Bonus-Built, was introduced in late 1947 as Ford's first post-World War II truck design. This particular model features a one-piece windscreen, a wider cab, and integrated headlamps. The F-Series was primarily offered in Pickup, Panel Van, Cab over Engine, or School Bus configurations, with the option to customize the chassis for specialty bodies. Powering the F-Series was a range of 'Flathead' straight-six and V8 engines, providing ample performance for various applications. Most models were equipped with three-speed manual transmissions, though heavier duty variants featured five-speed gearboxes. Notably, the option of Marmon-Herrington All Wheel Drive was available until 1959. In 1951, the first-generation Bonus-Built received a stylistic update with a single-bar grille, and it was eventually succeeded by the F100 in 1953. The F-Series Pickup went on to become the best-selling vehicle in the USA for 23 years and the best-selling truck for 31 years.

According to reports, this particular Ford F-1 Woodie Estate is one of only three specially bodied light commercial chassis manufactured in Cork for the US Ambassador to Ireland's bodyguard troupe. After its service, it made its way to Llangendeirne, West Wales before being acquired by hoteliers Mr & Mrs Knowles of Bramshaw, Lyndhurst in February 1996. Over the next seventeen years, the Ford served as transportation for numerous guests. Recognizing the importance of preserving its historical value, the Knowles entrusted the vehicle to S. T. Foreman Woodwork Restorations for a comprehensive bodywork refurbishment in 2007.

Under the hood, this Ford F-1 is powered by a 239ci (3. 9-liter) V8 engine, mated to a three-speed manual transmission. During the restoration process, necessary mechanical parts were sourced from Joblot Automotive Inc, a reputable specialist in New York. The vehicle has been sparingly used since entering the current ownership four years ago but remains in pristine condition and drives exceptionally well.

Included with the sale are various restoration photos and relevant paperwork, including an expired V5 Registration Document for the 'MSU 202' number plate. These documents further enhance the vehicle's provenance and serve as valuable historical records.

Don't miss the opportunity to own this extraordinary Ford F-1 Woodie, a rare piece of automotive history with connections to both the US Consulate in Ireland and the US Ambassador's bodyguard troupe. Its impeccable restoration, unique heritage, and impressive performance make it a truly remarkable vehicle that is sure to captivate collectors and enthusiasts alike.
