1970 Lancia Flavia Milleotto Berlina

Engine fully rebuilt 2023. Driving beautifully.

Driven back from Genoa in April 2022
Rare 1815cc 819. 302 engine type.
Car had stood garaged but unused for at least 10 years in Italy before I bought it from a classic car dealer in Chiavari near Genoa.

I drove it home from Chiavari to Stratford Upon Avon over 3 days where I became aware of some important issues to sort out.

550km into the trip I stopped at Pneu Collection in the Jura region of France to have 5 new Michelin XZX tyres fitted. The ones fitted were very badly flat spotted.

Brakes worked very well, power steering was perfect but the engine was ‘a little noisy’. In addition to the engine clatter there was a wheel bearing noise on left turns and an alarming thud, thud, thud noise on engine idle. The thudding was the power steering belt just about to give way and the front right wheel bearing has been replaced using the correct Lancia tools provided by the Flavia Consortium.

The engine was diagnosed with piston number likely to be out of shape. Which it was found to be. Engine has been dismantled and rebuilt with all new parts supplied by Cavalitto in Turin. I have a box full of all the parts replaced.

Engine has done approx 1000km since rebuild, it’s very torquey and matches extremely well with the long four speed gearbox.

The bodywork is solid. There were three small areas of panel corrosion which can be seen on this Youtube video. All old metal was cut out, replaced, repaired and painted.

You’ll notice the protective plastic supplied from the factory is still fitted to the door cards. Leaving this on seems to be a strange Lancia habit. I haven’t got to the bottom of why, it would looks smarter with them removed but you’d be a brave person to take them off and lose this ‘from the factory’ feature.

The red leather seats are faded at the sides from the sun but the the leather is really thick and still nice and supple. It could be recoloured if you wanted it look new.

There’s two point seatbelts in the front. But none in the back.

The boot is massive, great for a family continental holiday. There’s the spare wheel with new Michelin, original toolkit and jack, as well as hazard triangle and period snow chains.

Includes original Italian logbook and Italian owners manual.
