1975 bmw 518 e12 model , bought in january this year as a rolling project that was on the road with all the intentions of doing a full restoration on it , but as with all best ideas ... it never goes that way & what with work & other commitments i have no time to get to it sadly now so hoping that someone will take it on and restore it back to its original showroom condition..
Have replaced a few parts under the bonnet, including... dizzy cap, rotor arm, HT leads, coil... i think it needs setting up... eg , timing & carb set up etc,.. , car runs and drives & is used out and about and has been to a few classic car shows locally where it got alot of attention due to its rarity.
Previous owner fitted the alloy wheels to it & ive fitted new wheel nuts as he had used the old steel wheel nuts which wernt holding properly, so all that is sorted now... Also in the boot is a load of spare parts that i imagine have over the years previous owners have collected and also comes with the original steel wheels.
Bodywork has been filled by last owner and is starting to show through in places ..( SEE PICS) and car has had a respray at some point too, looks solid enough underneath from what i can see, but could do with a wire brush off and spraying with waxoyl as its looking a bit dry..
Electrics .. some things work & some things dont, not sure why , have been through some of the wiring and also fitted new fuses in main box, Heater blower doesnt work , interior light doesnt work, horns dont work, dash lights work when they feel like it, so possibly a loose connection or broken wire somewhere maybe ????
Original bmw toolkit still on underside of boot with all tools still in it, does need a small patch of welding in corner of boot by rear inner arch, also has had a patch up on end of drivers side outer sill ...
Interior wise all is good apart from drivers seat base which has unfortunately, but im sure someone in the know could fix this with ease,
Car has paperwork with it that shows some new parts including a new waterpump back in 2019, & service history upto 85000 miles, also original handbooks etc etc in a folder.
As car is a 1975 model its now tax and mot exempt which is good ,
overall a nice car that needs a bit of love and attention to bring it back to its former glory.
CAR IS LOCATED IN NORTH DEVON AREABought car as always wanted a classic bmw..., i love driving it around as it gets alot of looks and its so comfortable.. & very quirky
