A wonderful example of the rare Porsche 911 2. 7 Carrera in its striking original special order colour of Birch Green (Lichtgrün 253) with black interior. The car has recently undergone very significant mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Originally a California supplied car which subsequently spent 30 years in Japan before being imported to the UK in 2019. A major rebuild was then carried out over the following 2 years.
The 1974 model impact bumper Carrera was the replacement for the legendary 1973 2. 7 RS Carrera. There were two versions, the Euro spec version which had the same 210 bhp MFI engine as the 1973 Carrera RS, and the US spec version which because of emission controls ran a detuned 175 bhp engine with CIS injection. The G series Carreras were only made for two years with a total of 923 US 2. 7 Carrera coupes produced. This US car was built in September 1973 (Porsche Letter of Origin provided), has matching engine and chassis numbers, and was one of the first few hundred G series 911's built.
A non-sunroof coupe, it retains the original factory Ducktail spoiler as well as the additional strengthening at the rear of the transmission tunnel as found on the RS. This car also has the earlier type bright trim work and original 6 & 7 x 15 inch refurbished Fuchs wheels with new wheel nuts and the excellent N rated Pirelli P6000 tyres that have the correct period profile.
Bilstein shocks are used and the handling and ride are just as they should be, light and precise. The body has been taken back to bare metal before being repainted, and being a California car (via Japan) needed minimal repairs carried out. There is no rust or welding to the underside of the car. The mileage is likely genuine.
The engine has been fully rebuilt, and all opressive emission control removed. Re-polished crank, new RS pistons and cylinders to increase compression, new bearings, head studs, rockers, 911E camshafts, and fully refurbished and correctly jetted Weber carburettors, with original factory steel airbox. New clutch, fuel pump, rebuilt distributor and Magnecor leads. There are new SSI heat exchangers and a new Dansk sports exhaust and now the engine produces an estimated 195-200BHP. New oil lines etc..
Internally the carpets have been replaced with a full bespoke set of German square weave items made by Autos International. There is also an RS lightweight style ribbed rubber front mat. The front seats are the highly accurate Italian D'Eser Recaro sport seat replicas, the rear seats are also re-upholstered. A Blaupunkt DAB stereo with bluetooth is fitted.
A rare and stunning looking 911 which goes as well as it looks. A fraction of the cost of an RS and very considerably less than an MFI Carrera, with similar performance and handling.
