Description
1972 Mk1 Ford Capri 1600 XL (GT Spec) with MOT till June 2024 (although exempt)
I have owned this car over 10 years, the previous owner was 17 years! I have taken this on long journeys with no issues, Isle of Skye, Lake district etc and many car shows.
I have almost every mot from new, and mot it every year for safety- even though it is exempt. Kids regularly in the car so have had genuine ford seatbelts fitted in the rear.
Thousands spent on the car, which has the following:
4 branch manifold
Stainless steel exhaust
twin webber carb
K&N filter
New Cylinder head gasket with valves lapped in (no evidence of valve seat errosion- additive & supper unleaded always used).
New lightened flywheel and clutch.
Gearbox rebuilt.
New speedo cable (long enough for 5 speed box if desired).
New upgraded oil pump.
New water pump.
Refurbished radiator.
New relays fitted (no more smoldering headlight switch)
H4 bulbs
Vacuum gauge
New under dash speaker
New steering rack
New steering arms
New Alternator (disguised as a Dyno for originality)
New Accuspark Distributor
New HT Leads
New Accuspark Coil
New fuel pump (included but not needed)
Refurbished starter motor
New rocker cover and gasket
4 tyres (still with plenty tread)
Autoplas Louvre on rear window
Improved dash lighting.
Origional Ford seatbelts in rear.
MOT 14th June 2024 - Previous mot slips (see photos)
Recent service with New filter and oil.
Original Steering wheel and gear knob included.
The car is solid underneath and waxoiled, however the body work now requires attention (outwith my skill set). The car can be used without this, but would benefit greatly from a light restoration. The sills and underside have already been done and a pair of fibre glass wings are included in the sale. Has the usual old ford oil leaks and the odd ding and scrape, but is 51 years old.
Viewing highly recommended. This car has great potential and is very popular at shows - it has even been painted in a mural near to Holyrood palace! (see photo). Car is based in Edinburgh. can deliver or meet up for a viewing if local :)
