Range Rover Classic - Factory Manual 200Tdi
MOT til June24. Last MOT required welding which was done to a high standard plus any other areas that were on tier way. Apart from that it just needed two new bulbs, it passed without a single advisory.
Mechanically completely spot on, starts instantly. Had full cambelt and waterpump a couple of thousand miles ago (if that). Runs really well with no issues, and really shifts for it’s size due to an uprated turbo and intercooler. Much quicker than any other TDI i’ve driven. I calculated 35mpg on a sensible run up the country.
In the last couple of years I’ve done £2k on welding, including having the rear wheel arches rebuilt, inner sill front to back, body mounts all sorted, any chassis rot cut out and replaced. This was all done at a Classic specialist who I got to go over everything thoroughly, so not just what was on the MOT and not just a bodge (probably would have been cheaper that way)
This really is a usable motor, no longer rotten, but not completely restored. It's been used and looked after throughout its life with everything kept on top of.
Starts instantly first time.
Aux belts just replaced.
New headlining just done.
In the last couple of years it’s had:
Filters
Breather
New Exhaust
Speakers
Retro style radio
Cooling fan sensor
Battery
There's a stack of paperwork with receipts for:
Rebuilt front diff
Uprated turbo & intercooler
electric cooling fan, with a brand new sensor.
Head gasket
Rocker gasket
1 inch lowering springs
Repair panels for front arches, boot floor, headlight boxes (believe the rear cross member was done too)
Aluminium upper tailgate
Custom engine blanket
(That's just off the top of my head)
Central locking work on key.
All windows work well, aside from the rear passenger side which is somewhat slow.
Only selling as the money that just went on the welding was supposed to be for a wedding - clearly I misread what the good lady said. So unfortunately I have to downgrade (the motor, not the fiance)
Bad bits: blower motor doesn't work, heater is fine though, some areas solid but rough, paintwork is good compared to the majority but still a few small chips, scratches and bubbles. Worst is the roof where the lacquer's gone. I’ve removed some of the carpet (front wells, rear inner arches) as they’d been cut/ removed for the welding work and were just very tired. For me was better without.
I’ve bought the material to wrap to roof with a black leather vinyl.
One inner arch needs tidying after the welding. The lower tailgate is showing some slight rust coming through the paint after our lovely winter. Footwells rough but solid.
The old girl gets so much attention and compliments, it’s not a fully restored perfect example, but its been loved and looked after. Would make a great basis for a restoration, or just use and do anything when it crops up. I don’t particularly want to sell, but a wedding, a triumph spitfire project, poor health and lack of space mean its the sensible decision. (Until I probably buy a P38 to replace it and then we find it was far from sensible)
