Description
1964 Morris Mini Minor 850 Super De Luxe in almond green. This lovely Mk1 Mini had been sat for many years in an old boy’s garage in Wiltshire, whilst he slowly “restored” it. I purchased it about 4 years ago and started to get it roadworthy again. I entrusted the extensive mechanical recommissioning to The Tiger Motor Co in Kent, who removed the front subframe & engine to inspect & repair as necessary. The block & head were found to be in good condition, probably original, as was the magic wand gearbox. The engine now runs really well & the gearbox is good; this is a surprisingly nippy Mini. New parts were fitted such as the replica clutch & brake master cylinders, an alternator, original radiator and importantly, a full 7. 5” front disc conversion from Mini Spares. Nearly new Cooper-style 10” wheels with new tyres were also sourced & fitted. Whilst the car has obviously had various patches over the years, everything was either already solid or made good with welding as required. The subframes & mountings are also in good solid condition and new rear subframe parts were fitted as required, plus new wheel bearings. A new centre-exit exhaust was also fitted, which sounds great and is not too noisy. The interior could be considered a work-in-progress although is quite tidy. New rally-style front seats were fitted, as the intention was to get the originals repaired; both sets will be supplied. The rear seat was repaired and new trim panels etc sourced from Newton Commercial in the correct porcelain green. Whilst the car was resprayed by the previous owner, some of it could go with either a good polish or redoing; the car does look good from nearby but has one or two areas in need of attention. Not rusty, just in need of proper finishing. It passed its MoT last time without any advisories but has hardly been used due to work commitments and lack of spare time, sadly.
