Origins of the Morris Mini Traveller “Internal Tank”
Launched in 1960, the Morris Mini Traveller is the original Mini as an estate/ wagon: same look, same Issigonis brilliance, but with room to take everything with you.
The very first examples from 1960–61, like the one we’re offering, are the extremely rare “Internal Tank” models, with the fuel tank housed in the boot and the filler cap on the left rear wing. This arrangement disappears as soon as 1961: today, it’s one of the most sought-after variants of the Mini Mk1.

Here’s a July 1961 Morris Mini Traveller Internal Tank, in Old English White, from a superb collection in France, where it has been cherished and preserved with care.
The lines are ***** in their purity: Old English White paint, wooden body framing/ trim… exactly the look of a genuine early-production woody.
Inside, the red upholstery and grey cloth, the central speedometer and the red carpet immediately put you in the mood of the sixties. Everything speaks of attention to detail and authenticity.
Under the bonnet, the small 848 cc engine bay presents extremely neatly: easy starting, healthy running—ideal for enjoying the light, characterful feel and the unmistakable sound of a real Mk1.
A 1961 Traveller Internal Tank in Old English White, in this condition and from a fine French collection, is the sort of Mini you don’t see come up very often: a rare estate, irresistibly charming, ready to get back on the road for family outings, trips to the seaside… and to make absolutely everyone smile as it goes by.
