I’ve decided to put my 1977 Chevy Custom van up for sale .
As the pictures attached will attest it is probably the nicest Chevy Custom van currently in the Uk and possibly Europe .
It started out life in sunny California and being a very hard to source no window shorty .
The vehicle being a dry state import required NO ! Welding and very straight and true example.
Prior to starting the transformation I collected a lot of the true 70s parts to complete its homage to the 70s Boogie Vans of the day .
NOS Thrush Sidekick exhausts !
NOS Rear Porthole windows
NOS Aircraft style interior swivel lights .
NOS Baseball cap sunvisor . Etc to name a few
As was the custom modification back in the 1970s I decided to convert the slide to to an opening “Gull Wing Door “ which operates on the original exterior handle and is gas ram assisted .
The Paintwork is a masterpiece in itself ! Taking 18months of effort to come up the period correct look !!!!! With several colours in heavy flake , candies and pearls to give its overall finished detail and has to be seen close up to appreciate its magnificence.
The vehicle as was also the practice in the day had to be given a name it’s been sight written on the rear door ‘The No Tell Motel ‘
The wheel choice is a must for any true 70s van in the form of chrome Cragar SS wheels and caps , with period correct BF Goodrich Radial TA tyres to complete the look with 8’ rears And 7’ fronts .
The front being lowered with 3’ lowering springs .
Upon arrival in the UK new parts fitted are
New alternator
New power steering pump
New water pump
New fuel pump
New fuel filter
New plugs
New leads
New distributor cap
New coil
Oil and filter change etc
The interior is also a true 70s masterpiece , being fully insulated prior to commencing the refurb it boasts period correct gold crushed velvet and orange swirl material enhanced with crystal diamonds on the 4’ foam backing to replicate ‘Custom Vans’ of the 70s .
Both front seats swivel rearwards to face an origonal 70s octagon drink holding table lending itself to the rotating ‘8 Track Cassete Holder ‘
Middle section is layed out as a front room of the day with feature polished brass fireplace , being overlooked by a origonal velvet picture painting of an Indian girl looking into a pond with a fox looking back , all details to make this vehicle stand out from the crowd .
Rear area is a custom made to size mattress with gold satin sheets and treated to the same upholstery with the crystal diamond details , rear roof section has and opening roof top vent for ventilation for comfort while sleeping . Under bed storage is also carpeted and plentiful . Rear doors open outwards to gain access from both sides if needed .
The whole flooring is covered with period correct new brown ‘Shagpile’ carpet to tie it all together.
