The Appeal
It is highly unlikely that cars that break the mould so spectacularly, such as the Avantime, are likely to be signed off in the future. Patrick Le Quemont, Renault’s chief designer from 1991 to 2007 oversaw the design. The coupe/ MPV hybrid was launched in 2002 and was absolutely ‘ahead of time’ (as Avantime translates as). Avantime 3. 0 V6 Privilege automatic finished in Steppe metallic (irredescent metallic silver blue/ light green) with black leather seats.

* Great condition, and all the usual Avantime problem areas are good: minimal age relayed marks; roof rails and mirror surrounds all good with no bubbles. Wheels in very good condition & tyres replaced in 2019.

I decided to revisit Avantime ownership largely due to the condition of this vehicle, and knowing that a specialist exists.
The Avantime was originally owned in Surrey, and then purchased by a gentleman in Jersey. The vehicle was registered in Jersey ( all paperwork present), and was then imported back to the UK in 2018 and the registration reverted to the original plate. It was purchased by a collector who stored it for 5 years, although it was MOTd each year.
All documentation and service history is present and makes for interesting reading! There are numerous bills from Renault in St Helier. Both heater matrixes were replaced by them
I purchased the car, and although it ran well, the cambelt had been changed in 2012. Therefore, the car went up to the well known Avantime Restorations specialist Sandy Burnett in Aberdeen. The car was serviced, cambelt and waterpump replaced along with spark plugs, coils, gearbox oil change and various trims replaced. The air-con didn't work and was found to be the compressor, so a new one has been fitted.
The underside is good, with none of the heavy corrosion these can suffer from. Stainless exhaust system.
This Avantime drives very well, and the gearbox performs as it should with no nasty clunk that some suffer from.
The Steppe iridescent paint is very good, with a good shine. There are a few small stone chips. The roof rails, mirror surrounds and alloy wheels are good with none of the usual corrosion.
The troublesome CD player has been removed and there is a phone jack to play music through the stereo along with the radio.
There are a couple of issues, the electric folding mirror doesn't always fold in the driver's door & the heated seats don't work. I only have one key, but remote works fine
