Description
On its original registration this matching numbers home market Series 1 has an interesting history having only covered a total of 48k miles from new. Dispatched 27th May 1966 to dealer Suttons of St Helens, the car came out of the factory in Carmen Red. A single MOT certificate is on file from June 1973 with a stated mileage of 40, 837. On the 21st May 1974 the car was sold by Calshot Car Centre in Reading for £275- The car was then driven by the new owner Frances Barmby back to Wales where it was parked up and stored from 1974 until 2022 whereupon it was placed into auction by the deceased’s family with a mileage of 47, 038. Moving forward the car was purchased at Brightwells auction and during 2023/ 24 went through a full body and mechanical restoration with £70k worth of parts receipts alone on file from this nut and bolt restoration.
Without going through an exhaustive list, some of the notable points of the restoration are:
Professionally finished in year correct Opalescent Grey
Fully rebuilt and blue printed engine
Rebuilt gearbox and rear differential
Jenvey Heritage Throttle bodies with fuel injection (no more carb tuning and balancing which is never right!!!!)
EZ Power steering upgrade
Girling vented disc brake upgrade
Electronic ignition fitted.
Cooling system upgraded
New Mohair hood supplied and fitted by Aldridge.
The car now runs and drives beautifully, I drove it around the M25 in the heat and traffic recently and it was like driving a modern car. Now available with barely more than shake down miles this e-type is ready to be driven and enjoyed and would be especially good for touring. The car sounds fantastic and is very quick.
