Description
Sadly I'm having to part with my stunning 1980 Triumph Spitfire 1500. I have had the car for nearly two years and have spent over £4k on the car in the last year to get it running like a dream. My wife and I recently had our first baby and after a rent rise the cost of garaging the car is just too much for me to justify keeping it. I'm devastated to have to let it go, especially after putting so much time, money and effort into it but needs must.
It was in great condition when I got the car after having had a professional restoration a several years ago. During the restoration the Engine appears to have been swapped for a Dolomite 1300 engine which seems to be a preference for some enthusiasts as it’s a more reliable and less thrashed engine. I believe the odometer was changed to match the Dolomite engine at this time.
It runs, drives and handles superbly and sounds amazing thanks to a stainless steel sports exhaust system. The car has overdrive in third and fourth gears and the engine runs like a dream.
These cars were built up until August 1980 and mine was first registered in the UK, on 11th September 1980 so it represents one of the very last cars off the production line.
Fitted with its original factory hard top which is in superb condition, the car also comes with a worn soft top and mint tonneau cover.
The only remaining work I had planned for the car was to have a new mohair soft top added from Don Hoods but I hadn't managed to get round to this yet.
The car is registered with the DVLA as a historic vehicle which means it is ULEZ compliant if driving in London, and requires no road tax or MOT.
In the last 12 months the car has had the following work done
HS4 carbs cleaned and tuned by Triumph specialist mechanic with new K&N air filters added and a new red distributor rotor.
Full overhaul of the rear brakes with new drums, cylinders, shoes, hose and pipe. Overhaul of the front brakes with new discs, EBC pads, hoses, pipes and callipers along with adding a new brake master cylinder and new brake fluid.
The car also has had a new fuel tank fitted along with a new pickup pipe and fuel sender along with ethanol proof fuel hose all round, a new fuel pump and 2 in-line fuel filters fitted.
A new clutch was fitted a few weeks ago plus a new choke cable, new ignition key cut, new sun visors on both sides, carb heatshield and gaskets installed along with bonnet cones, exhaust mounts, battery mat and clamp, pedal springs and front flasher gaskets.
Finally, I had all 4 wheels plus the spare removed, cleaned and sand blasted then repainted by Maldon shot blasting. The 5 new Falken Sincera tires fitted with new chrome wheel nuts, springs and washers.
The spark plugs, oil and oil filter have also been recently changed.
The car comes with plenty of spares. The car turns a lot of heads in this colour, drives perfectly and has very limited rust.
