Description
For sale my great Golf GTI mk3 8v.
I have owned the car for over 8 years, after searching long and hard to find an decent original example, as most just seem to of been abused and unloved. It took me a long time to find the right car.
I always had a soft spot for the mk3 GTI, being a VW enthusiast and owning pretty much every generation of GTI amongst lots of other VW's.
The car has been used less and less and over the past year not used at all really and I own another 6 vehicles so I thought it was time for the car to find a new home.
Hopefully the pictures show the condition of the GTI and do it justice. its finishing in "Mystic" blue and is in excellent original condition. The guy I brought the car from described it as being in "time warp" condition and I still think that is a good way to describe it, the car is original having never been restored, so there is a bit of rust around the petrol filler cap, but this has never got any worse in all the time I've had the car. What drew me to this car was the low miles and originality and the fact that it had the very rare heated black leather with rear headrests, I always thought that the standard cloth interior just didn't do the GTI any justice.
Since owing it has been well looked after and I've also had some carefully thought out modifications carried out, these being, a bespoke made stainless exhaust system at a cost of over £800 which sounds great, has improved the feel of the car but whilst also looking close to the standard system. I've also had a DAB radio with Bluetooth fitted, to try and make the car useable everyday, which of course it is. I still have the original stereo with cd changer that was fitted. I have also fitted a Jetex air filter, just the uprated paper type that fits in the airbox, so therefore still looking standard, but this has again made a nice little upgrade in how the engine feels as it seems to breath better.
Basically the car is standard, having never been "got at" and ruined. Another job I had carried out was the replacement headlining, as the car along with pretty much every other Golf of this era suffered with the saggy headlining, I therefore took it to a professional upholsterer and had a new headlining fitted at a cost of over £400 it now looks perfect and really makes a difference to the look and feel of the car inside.
As you can see I fitted different wheels as again I always thought the mk3's original wheels didn't quite do it justice, so the wheels are genuine VW beetle alloys, and I had new tyres all round probably around 4000 miles ago, so still loads of tread. Included in the sale will be the original wheels though of course.
The car has been stored in my lockup for a while now, just being left on a battery conditioner and started occasionally and when it is started it starts first time every time, no problems whatsoever. The ABS pump/ system has also been overhaled (with paperwork to show) as this is another known issue with these mk3's, again that has been done 5/ 6 years ago and the ABS system now works perfectly.
I'm looking for someone to love and cherish the GTI as I have and hope it gives someone as much fun and enjoyment that's its given me over the years. I do believe these are future classics and are starting to go up in value, especially a rare example like this.
The car has just had a brand new clutch kit fitted, as it had started to slip a bit, the old clutch was the original.
As it's not been used for a while, the MOT had obviously ran out, but took it for an MOT and passed, so now has a new MOT on it but it is currently SORN
There is loads of paperwork and service history with the car and I've had various maintenance work carried out like new brakes etc.
Aircon works perfectly
To sum up , this is a lovely original example, and with the small modifications/ improvements I've made is perfectly useable everyday or would also suit a collector. It does look and drive superbly.
I've priced the car at what I think is a fair price for what is a very nice example. I've tried to show the condition in the photos.
Thanks for taking the time to read the ad and if you need any questions answered just ask
I may be interested in a part exchange up or down but probably only interested in VW's
