1971 Triumph TR6
Classic British Sports Car in Stunning Condition
Beautifully Maintained, Upgraded & Ready to Enjoy!
For sale is a 1971 Triumph TR6 in Old English White, a true British classic with an impressive history and exceptional condition. Originally a US specification ‘CC’ series TR6, this beauty was imported from a dry state – believed to be Texas – which explains why it has been spared from corrosion and has a solid underbody.
Engine & Performance
The heart of this TR6 is its 2. 5-litre straight-six, professionally rebuilt just four years ago. The rebuild included a lead-free cylinder head conversion and a new oil pump. Since then, the engine has clocked only 2, 000 miles, ensuring a near-new mechanical feel.
The most notable upgrade is the Toyota Supra five-speed gearbox conversion—an increasingly popular mod among TR6 owners. It replaces the original four-speed with overdrive and offers superior gear changes and cruising comfort. A new three-piece clutch complements the gearbox. This transformation alone cost £7, 500 and brings the car closer to modern drivability.
Instead of the original Lucas fuel injection or Stromberg carbs, this TR6 now breathes through reconditioned SU HS6 carburettors—a reliable and easy-to-maintain setup that delivers smooth power. A Phoenix full-bore exhaust system adds both performance and a satisfying, throaty note.
Cooling, Suspension & Brakes
The cooling system has been comprehensively upgraded for dependability. A Revotec electric fan, re-cored radiator, and all-new hoses keep the engine running at optimal temperatures even in traffic or summer weather.
Braking performance is excellent, thanks to a full overhaul two years ago including rebuilt calipers. A recently installed suspension setup featuring new coil springs and Koni dampers improves road handling and ride comfort. These changes bring new life to how the car behaves on twisty backroads—sharp, composed, and confidence-inspiring.
Interior Refinement
Inside, this TR6 has undergone a tasteful transformation that balances classic looks with comfort. The cabin was professionally retrimmed in cream leather, covering the seats, door cards, crash pads, and dash top. Combined with a new walnut dashboard and Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, the interior now exudes timeless British style. This work, costing £1, 750, brings a touch of luxury while remaining in period.
Exterior Details
The car wears mostly original Old English White paint, with careful cosmetic work to retain its authentic patina. A striking red mohair hood from Rimmer Brothers (costing £700) adds a unique and stylish contrast to the bodywork. The original steel wheels have been shot-blasted and powder-coated for longevity, and they’re fitted with matching quality tyres. Chrome trim and brightwork are polished to a high standard, and the car was recently treated to a full clay bar, polish, and carnauba wax for a deep, rich finish.
Serviced and Sorted
Mechanical condition is excellent. The car has been fully serviced by Tom Luther, a former Henlys North London Triumph mechanic with over 40 years of experience. It’s been tuned on a period Bosch analyser and recently received a new fuel pump with a five-year warranty. Though tax and MOT exempt, the seller will provide a fresh MOT for added buyer confidence. Triumph TR6: A British Motoring Icon Reimagined
The Triumph TR6 is one of the finest examples of classic British sports car engineering. Produced from 1968 to 1976, it was Triumph’s best-selling TR, with over 91, 000 units made—more than 83, 000 destined for North America. With its bold Karmann-designed styling and powerful 2. 5-litre straight-six engine, it offered a compelling blend of performance and charisma. Today, it remains a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
This 1971 TR6, finished in timeless Old English White, represents a particularly well-cared-for and thoughtfully upgraded example. Originally built for the U. S. market as a ‘CC’ series car, it was imported from a dry state—believed to be Texas—resulting in a solid, rust-free chassis. Over the past ten years, more than £26, 000 has been invested to enhance reliability, performance, and comfort, while preserving its classic soul.
