Description
1949 MG TC – Chassis TC9164
Woodland Green | Tan Leather Interior | Matching Numbers | 120 Miles Since Restoration
A truly exceptional 1949 MG TC, chassis number TC9164, delivered new to Mr Douglas Walker on 2nd August 1949, this UK-supplied TC retains its original buff logbook, and is a genuine matching numbers example.
Lovingly restored over the past 57 years, this MG has undergone a meticulous and sympathetic restoration. The engine has been comprehensively rebuilt by renowned specialist Peter Edney, incorporating a lead-free conversion, lightened flywheel, increased compression ratio to 9:1, and full balancing. The result is a TC that not only retains its period character but delivers performance and refinement. The car has covered just 150 miles since completion, so still running in – but already, it is without question the finest T-Series driving experience I’ve encountered.
This car boasts an uncommonly clean and detailed underside, reflecting the level of care that has gone into every aspect of its restoration – truly a labour of love. Removed from the road in 1968 by former owner Chris Howard, it remained a treasured, long-term project until completed just last month by myself. The work was clearly carried out with patience and devotion, and it shows in every corner of the vehicle.
Only three former keepers, it comes with a superb history file, including invoices dating back to 1969, a current V5C, and a selection of spares.
Finished in the ever-classic Woodland Green with a beautifully trimmed tan leather interior, this MG TC is elegant, engaging, and a joy to drive.
Presently fitted with seatbelts, brake lights and indicators - these could easily be removed if not to the new owners taste.
Background on the MG TC
The TC was the first post-war MG, and though it shared much with its pre-war TB predecessor – including the iconic 1, 250cc XPAG engine – the TC introduced a wider body and improved ride via hydraulic dampers. Originally producing 54. 5 bhp, the TC was a spirited performer of its day and quickly found fans across the Atlantic. It became the car that sparked America's romance with British sports cars, despite being built exclusively in right-hand drive.
Produced between September 1945 and November 1949, just 10, 000 examples of the TC were ever made, and it remains one of the most beloved MGs of all time.
This is not merely an MG TC – it’s a carefully preserved piece of British motoring history, brought back to life with passion and precision. A unique opportunity for the discerning collector or enthusiast to own one of the very best. Fantastic value with a restoration cost far exceeding the asking price, this TC has been a labour of love over its 57 year restoration and is an absolute joy to drive. Very useable, easy to drive with a wonderful gearbox and lead free conversion. Continuous history and an extensive history file make this car very attractive.
