Description
Ford V8 Pilot 1949 Flathead Old English White over Oxford Blue
3. 6L manual “3 on the tree”.
The Ford V8 Pilot was the first production Ford motor car to be manufactured in the UK after the second world war ended.
She starts runs and stops as she should, she is in good overall condition, but as you would expect from a 76-year-old lady, there are plenty of age related marks and numerous opportunities to continuously upgrade and improve her. She is no "Trailer Queen" but very much a working, driving classic that could be used daily.
This model boasts:
12V Negative earth conversion
New WOSP 12 DC Dynator with new WOSP dummy “Lucas style” regulator
New Stromberg e-Fire electronic ignition distributor with Flame Thrower epoxy filled coil
New Stromberg 97 carburettor with Ethanol tolerant internals
Electric fuel pump
New WOSP Hi-Torque starter motor
Newly re-cored hi capacity radiator by Aaron Radiators of London with Spal 16” electric cooling fan, controlled by a Revotec inline electronic fan controller.
Reconditioned water pumps X 2 from Belcher Engineering with brass impellers and ceramic bearings.
2 new front engine mounts
Hazard Warning Lights
Daytime running lights integrated into side lights and bumper-mounted driving lights
Reconditioned brakes, including: re-manufactured front and rear drums from Belcher Engineering, new front wheel cylinders and reconditioned master cylinder.
New, complete exhaust system, including N. O. S. manifolds
Recently reupholstered in cream leather with navy blue piping
New windscreen rubber weather seal.
5 new 600R16 Auburn Classic Whitewall Radial Tyres. These tyres are designed to retain the classic “cross-ply look” whilst giving the safety of a radial’s performance and cost over £2, 200 for the set. This Ford V8 Pilot is a real head turner and she gets smiles, waves and thumbs-up wherever she goes. Formerly a wedding car, there is no reason why she could not go back into service again, or join somebody's private collection.
This is the only V8 ever produced in the UK by Ford. Fit for a king, as evidenced by King George VI's shooting break Pilot V8.
