£12, 000 or make offer
Registered September 1974
H&R Ultra low coil overs
1979 Golf GTI engine 1. 6 running twin 40 Weber carbs, Piper ultimate road cam and vernier pulley, forged pistons, engine spec’d and rebuilt from scratch by Audi British Touring Car engine builder, gas flowed, ported [have complete build sheet with engine specs], uprated fuel pump, Magnecor HT leads, Luminetion optronics black ignition and coil, brand new fuel lines for E5 and E10 unleaded, external oil cooler [engine has about 750 miles on it and recently had carb set up and rolling road tune carried out].
4 branch stainless steel manifold and exhaust from VW heritage TUV approved as from Germany.
Brand new Yokohama tyres on refurbished OG GTI alloys [about 150 miles travelled on them]
Recently had front end rust proofed and repainted. I sourced 2 front wings for early swallowtail after a long search to find… Rear valance needs repair on the seems but haven’t had the time to do. Vehicle is very solid otherwise.
Interior is completely original and in good condition for 50 years old. It has been bleached by the sun and uses VW beetle seats as VW did this on the very early Swallowtails.
I have all the original documents from point of sale which is cool and original VW Golf sales brochure from 1974 that I’ll sell with car.
I have the original 1. 5 LS engine that runs but I had planned to have this fully rebuilt, Philspeed engineering are amazing and would recommend them to complete as it will look and run like brand new if desired to swap back to original.
I also have a 1979 5 speed GTI gearbox but again, haven’t had the time to build into the car so currently running 4 speed, will include. Also 1979 Golf GTI seats that need a retrim, will include if wanted, I had thought I’d retrim with green westfalia trim I have.
Brand new stage 1 clutch
Brakes have been fully restored, new seals etc with Goodridge braised hoses. New brake lines throughout.
Rear lights are rare German posties red lenses.
I’m sure I’ve missed things but I love this car, I’ve had it for nearly 10 years I just don’t use it which is a shame. It could do with some TLC and a new home that will give it more time and love than I can right now. Fun rare little car.
Engine has about 1000 miles on it.
Tyres have about 150 miles on them.
Sounds lovely.
