Description
This is my May 1923 Bullnose Cowley open tourer, purchased last October from a southern dealer. I am only selling because my wife can’t get in.
It’s not hard to see why people became addicted to this model in its day. Introduced around 1913 the basic Morris bullnose lasted until 1926, by which time in one form or another accounted for an impressive 45% of all new car sales in the uk.
The distinctive bullnose radiator was easily recognisable as a symbol of real quality. Equipped with the British built Hotchkiss side valve engine, it was both strong and powerful, easily coping with four adults on board..
This very impressive example certainly stands well above the average example one encounters for sale, and as an added feature, has every period extra that was available in the day. Complete with rear auster screens for passenger comfort, with a rear mounted trunk and walking stick sheaf. Complete with a good folding canvas hood, just been waterproofed, a hood envelope and a full length tonneau cover. Has a full set of good side screens.
It was subject to a 500 hour restoration in 1977, after it was found in pieces. Had a new high amp battery in 2022. There is also an invoice for a rebore with new valves and pistons. Machine head and block.
It has of course been reupholstered in leather, has five good beaded edge tyres, just had new oils, and a good greasing. Flashing indicators have been fitted.
The car starts and runs beautifully, and stops well with its rear wheel brakes.
This is an outstanding vehicle, for 103 years old, and if you look after it, it will last that long again.
NOW SOLDComes with original buff log book and a small history. Had 4 previous owners, also has laminated instructions on how to start it
