Lotus Elan S3 drophead 1967
This car has been dry stored for a few years. It is on SORN and does not have a current MOT. (See details below.) The engine, which is SE specification, starts and runs. The car is complete with new Paul Matty dashboard and (unfitted) new hood. It comes with many spares (list available). Presently the car is fitted with period Aly Cat style wheels and an aluminium radiator with electric fan. Original wheels and copper rad are available. Some fettling is needed to bring car up to its former glory, hence the price. I reluctantly offer for sale my 1967 Elan, we are both getting older and seeing it stored and un-used is no fun. A new owner is needed.
I have owned this car for 30 years. I bought it in 1995 while living in the USA from multi-Lotus car owner, Roger Sielig. He had bought it from John Stover who, I believe, is the man who imported it from UK. It is a UK specification car.
For many years I drove it round Texas, (where they thought it was a 7/ 8th model of a Mazda Miata). In the USA it was maintained by Paul Rego, a real Lotus enthusiast, who now runs Sports Car World Inc, Texas, and is the owner of the Lotus 79 which races in the F1 vintage series.
I shipped the car back to UK in 2004 (it has done almost as many miles at sea as on land) and in 2009 took it with me to hot, sunny, southern Italy. Hence the aluminium radiator and electric fan (from Tony Thompson Racing).
Brexit took away the possibility of continuing to drive the car in Italy on UK plates, and Italian bureaucracy stymied moving the car onto Italian registration. Consequently, it sat sadly in my garage until I brought it back to the UK in 2024.
Now it needs a new owner to give it the TLC it deserves, bring it back to life, and enjoy the driving experience that only a Lotus gives.
