Description
Selling my 1979 MGB GT in dark red. It’s an original rubber‑bumper model showing just 54, 000 genuine miles, supported by paperwork. I’ve owned it for around 10 years and always used it as a fun, usable classic rather than a show car. Mechanically it was sorted when I bought it, and it never gave me trouble. The only thing that ever let it down was the paint.
The car was driven into the garage about seven years ago after a full MOT. It has been dry‑stored since, handbrake off, and the tank drained. I’ve just fitted a new battery and plugs, used a little carb cleaner, and it fired up.
It also rolls freely - brakes haven’t seized.
Condition overview -
Engine - Started after long storage with fresh battery and plugs
Oil - is over max and black (expected after sitting)
Fuel pump works
Carbs leak from the bottom — will need seals and a proper clean before use
Electrics - Alternator currently not charging and has been disconnected for safe starting
Bodywork -
Appears solid overall
Footwells and boot are clean with no rust
Underside looks good
Small rust patches at the bottom of the doors and some bubbling in the paint
Structurally it has held up well since being made good before I bought it
Paint - Presentable from a distance but really wants a respray to look its best
Interior - Original and tidy for its age
Paperwork -
54, 000 miles with supporting documents
V5 present and in my name
Currently SORN
Solid base for a light project: carbs, fluids, alternator, and normal stuff before returning to the road. Once ready, it qualifies for tax‑free historic status.

-A low‑mileage MGB GT that’s been dry‑stored for years and now needs straightforward recommissioning.
As it’s been off the road for several years, it will need to be transported rather than driven home.
It cost me around £150 a year to insure and MOTs were never more than £100.
When I used to take it in, even the garage wanted to buy it — which says a lot about the condition underneath.
Only selling because I’m renovating the house and need the garage space. Sad to see it go.
I have a video of the car starting up after long storage. If you’d like to see it, just let me know and I can send it over.
