Summary
This is my 1967 UK-supplied RHD 11-window VW splitscreen, 85000 miles. One of the last splitscreens to be made, it came with 12V electrics from the factory. Chassis number suggests date of manufacture November 1966. I am the fifth owner.
A professional garage carried out a full vehicle inspection & successful MOT in April 2026.
Mechanicals
- 1500cc correct period engine.
- Front disc brakes.
- Stainless steel exhaust
- IRS rear axle
Previous owner reports that they performed the following works.
- Complete engine rebuild including fitment of unleaded twin port heads to increase reliability on unleaded petrol.
- Fitment of twin Kadron carburetors.
- Fuel pump was replaced.
- 1303s gearbox was reconditioned.
Bodywork
Complete respray done in 2001. Very good condition. Some small areas of rust showing under the paint by the front bumper and some chips on the bumpers themselves. Some other cosmetic imperfections as expected for a vehicle of this age but all sound structurally.
Underbody & running gear has been professionally inspected in April and is reported to be in excellent condition. The new bare steel ventilation pipe running down the centre of the underside and clearly visible in the underbody photos was treated with Waxoyl as part of the April inspection.
Genuine Porsche Fuchs alloys with hubcaps (hubcaps not currently fitted – require fettling to fit over axle centres). Tyres are sound but will need replacing due to age.
Interior
- Walkthrough-style twin front seats upholstered in green fabric.
- New roof lining in grey quilted fabric.
- New vinyl flooring in cargo area
- New door panels to all five doors
- New fabric lining to front bukhead & rear shelf
- Custom-built floor-mounted storage unit and two parcel shelf storage units (right side and ceiling)
- 16A 3-pin socket underneath (not yet connected)
- Some LED lighting
- Rock & roll bed frame, not yet furnished
History
I purchased this vehicle from a private seller in 2021. It had an almost completely bare interior and very good bodywork & mechanicals. I handed it over to a conversion firm with a view to fitting it out for camping.
Sadly the firm did not complete the work I paid for, and I only got the vehicle back a couple of months ago when that firm was liquidated.
Circumstances have changed in the 4 ½ years since and I am now looking to sell the vehicle rather than spend further funds finishing the interior myself.
I have a folder containing some service history from previous owners.
Any questions, I'll do my best to answer. A lovely character and makes everyone smile as she drives past. A very classic driving experience, but anyone buying a splitscreen will be aware of this.
With a completed interior she will make a great camping vehicle, but circumstances didn't work out for us to complete the conversion.
She definitely deserves it as she's a very solid proposition to be finished properly.
