Description
Owned as a weekend and sunny day fun car since May 2017, primarily maintained by Max500 and/ or Lakeside Engineering during my ownership, incl a significant mechanical and running gear refresh including a big break upgrade last year. Cambelt replaced last year during "C" service, spark plugs, leads, injectors etc completed this year.
I am the 4th owner. Originally supplied by Bell & Colvill. I have the history from 1996 -2003 with the 2nd owner who used Bell & Colvill for his servicing. The 3rd owner (lotus Elan Owners Club chairman) used Lakeside Engineering, Paul Matty, Bell & Colvill and his own engineering expertise between 2003 and 2017. He did install a sportier than standard exhaust during his ownership. He traded the car in and I purchased with the garage doing certain works before sale.
The car is a well maintained example for a 30+ year old car. It is kept in a garage on a trickle charge, ready for those sunny days. (New battery this year)
Mechanicals are sound, engine, turbo, hoses, drive train, suspension, (recent replacement of rear shocks with original refurbished Lotus units) gear change are all in fine fettle.
The electrics are working, all lights, incl. pop up headlights, elec windows, elec side mirrors, heater (with the exception of the after market CD player.)
Car comes with a proper 90's Cobra immobiliser. I would get this removed if keeping the car, but does work.
2 sets of keys.
All dials are working, oil temp, water temp, boost gauge, battery charge, oil pressure, rev and speedo.
Paintwork is fair overall, some stone chips at low level to the nose and a couple of hairline scratches, but would benefit from a "detailing". Leather interior is fair, needs some feeding, which I had started a couple of years ago. Lotus over mats are installed.
The hood is generally good, one minor hole on the side frame hinge joint, as is the rear screen, the seals are in a fair condition.
Spare wheel, jack, tool kit are all in place.
The photos show a missing boot lock, this has been replaced.
MOT has 11 months, couple of advisories, tyre wear (not sorting pre sale) brakes - uncertain what the issue is, has been investigated by Lakeside - no fault found.
This is a private sale. I am happy to talk to any properly interested prospective purchaser about the car. This is an interesting, becoming rarer Lotus, at the time reported as the best front wheel drive car, passed only by the Integra Type R.
Surprisingly practical, took 2 adults camping to Le Mans Classic last year with all the kit in the boot.
Fun, rare and interesting with pop up lights!!
