I am selling this car on behalf of my brother his description of the car is listed below:-
Lotus Elan Plus 2S 1970 4 Speed – Big Valve Engine
After much work and expense, illness dictates that I part company with this lovely example of a +2S. Therefore, I will explain what has been done and what the features are.
Please note that this is an ‘S’ model and so it has the uprated dashboard and other features.
• Engine –
o Big Valve head refurbed and set up by professional engine builder
o Power plus pistons and reconditioned bottom end
o New oil filter
o New spark plugs
o New plug leads (RED)
o New Accuspark distributor
o New engine mountings
o New alternator mounting bracket
o New water pump and front engine cover (Over £500!)
o New belts
o New oil cap
o Newly rebuilt Dellorto triple jet carbs, new mounting rings, jets, throttle links, etc. (Not original equipment, much better!)
o New braided petrol pipes
o New throttle cable
o New alloy thermostat housing and thermostat
o Refurbished mechanical fuel pump
o New coolant pipes
• Gearbox
o 4 speed gear box in good condition, but unused due to off road status. Combined with Big Valve engine and Dellorto’s and Ram air filter it should be quite nippy!
• Clutch
o New plates and pressure plate + thrust bearing and idler bearing.
o New slave cylinder and arm.
o New hydraulic pipe.
• Exhaust is rust free and good throughout. New rubber carriers.
• Brakes were new throughout but will need bedding in as the car has stood for a while. New discs and pads and all new brake lines and braided flexible hoses.
• Suspension
o All arms have been plastic coated and repainted at regular intervals and look very good.
o Springs and dampers look very good as well.
• Interior
o New soundproofing/ underlay throughout.
o New unused carpets and trim.
o Seats are mint throughout.
o One very small defect on the transmission tunnel (I have the repair material with the car).
o Very original and clean.
o Original steering wheel and horn push.
o Dash is the more comprehensive ‘S’ dashboard.
• Boot
o Re-carpeted and new throughout
o New spare wheel
o New boot release cable
o New battery
• Others
o New Tudor washer bottle
o New Ram Air filter and new trunking (original air filter is included in sale can be used if required)
o New airbox and brand new backplate.
o New intake trumpets
o Refurbished headlamp lifter system – new pipes and ‘T’ piece, new vacuum pod on one side, good other side. (System works)
o Good refurbed radiator and fan with new chrome cap.
• Chassis
o Original Lotus chassis in good solid condition. Has been painted with original chassis paint and looked after.
• Wheels
o Refurbished and in excellent condition
o Tyres are brand new and unused
• Bodywork
o Recent full respray. Looks fabulous.
o Bumpers are good but front is not perfect.
The car was owned for 15 years, by someone who was restoring it, before I bought it. I have some service history that shows the car had 22, 000 miles on it at the last MOT in 2001. It now has 22, 813 miles on it and hasn’t been used for the past 21 years!
There will be some spare parts sold with the car at the price advertised.
An excellent and highly original +2 ‘S’ that is almost a new car, based on the parts and refurbishment already undertaken. All it needs is road use and any recommissioning, not a massive job.
It is featured in a book about Lotus plus two’s and just needs someone to sort out any issues as it is used again and use it for the next 50 years! A low mileage very useable and beautiful Lotus.
