Description
1973 Triumph Stag Convertible. Selling as running and driving but as an unfinished project as I would advise further work to get it to it’s optimum.
This is my car as owned since last August, I originally intended to do all the work myself but unfortunately work commitments have got priority so unfortunately, I am having to move on. It was bought from a farm off the moor where it had been in dry storage for a number of years, I had it sent straight down to a classic specialist who looked over it and got it safe for the road (mainly fitting new brake, fuel and coolant lines) he also fitted a new radiator and upgraded header tank.
It also has a stainless steel backbox fitted (more details below) and electronic ignition.
Summary of work completed/ parts fitted under my ownership:
- Rebuilt front suspension (new bushes and waxoiled)
- Three oil changes, filters over the months.
- Full carb rebuild
- New alternator
- New rear bumper
- New HT Leads
Parts not fitted but available:
- 2x chassis outriggers
- 2x mirrors
- Rear suspension bushings
- Stainless steel exhaust (sections from manifold to silencer – backbox already fitted)
Overall the interior is in good condition for its age with solid seat foams (they often fail) and no rips or tears in the carpet, in terms of running and driving I have had an expert get it running as sweet as possible but it could do with more work as there is a wheel wobble when driving and it's always been a bit smokey. There is rust on all four corners that needs attention (the worst is on the drivers side) but the body and body work is solid, tyres are also old and at least two would need replacing while the soft top is in fair condition with the overall fabric not featuring any large tears, I have unfortunately snagged it when folding up the top which has created a small hole and I believe it's also missing some seals around the top of the doors (it's always been garaged in my ownership). The hood frame is cracked as shown on one of the corners. It also has an excellent history file dating back to the 80's which essentially confirms the mileage as correct. In the 90s it received significant work including an invoice from Rimmer for a new engine so I believe it to only be a few thousand miles old! I believe back then it also received a respray which has held up well but isn't perfect.
In summary this would be a perfect base for further recommissioning and could be your chance to get your hands on a classic British GT car. Please note this car is also tax and MOT exempt.
Extensive history file dating back to 80s
