Description
This Ascona B was manufactured in 1981 and originally sold in Belgium. It was subsequently brought to Greece, where it was purchased by its current owner in 1984 and has remained in the same ownership ever since.
The car is powered by its original 1, 297 cc engine and has covered 101, 203 km. It remains remarkably original, with its original interior, trim and period alloy wheels. The car has seen very limited use over the last 10–15 years and has been carefully preserved rather than extensively modified or restored.
The car is currently in excellent overall condition. The “1. 2” badge on the rear is not original to the car; it was fitted following a repair to the boot lid many years ago, as 1. 3 models were apparently not available/ commonly represented in the Greek market at the time. The actual engine is the 1, 297 cc 1. 3 unit.
The car is currently located in Korthi, Andros, Greece. It carries the historic registration plates issued through the Greek FIVA organisation. Following recent changes to Greek legislation, these plates are no longer recognised, so the car will require new registration plates before being used normally on public roads in Greece. This is reflected in the asking price and is something a prospective Greek buyer should be aware of.
A particularly unusual feature of the car is its history: it has remained with the same owner since 1984, retaining its original character for more than 40 years.
This is not a car that has been rebuilt to look like an old Ascona — it is an old Ascona that has simply been looked after.
Purchased in 1984, only a few years after it was manufactured, it has remained in the same ownership for over four decades. It has been driven and enjoyed but, particularly during the last 10–15 years, has seen very little use and has been carefully preserved.
What makes it special is its originality and history. The car retains its authentic interior, trim and period alloy wheels, while the 1, 297 cc engine gives it the character of the original 1. 3 model. The bright red paintwork and classic lines of the Ascona B make it a particularly attractive example of an early-1980s Opel.
My favourite thing about the car is its story: it has effectively stayed with the same family/ owner for almost its entire life. Finding an early Ascona B in such original condition, with 101, 203 km and a continuous ownership history dating back to 1984, is increasingly difficult.
It would make an excellent addition to a collection for someone looking for an honest, original European classic rather than a heavily modified or reconstructed example.
